Portage Country Club
About
Portage Country Club is situated along the scenic shores of Swan Lake. Opened in 1930, the golf course has a traditional layout that is both challenging and playable. At 6,356 yards from the back tees, it is shorter than most championship courses you will find today but the layout still has plenty to offer besides length. There is a mix of holes that are wide-open and some that are framed by stands of mature trees. The rolling terrain provides subtle but tricky undulations in the greens and fairways as well as the occasional double-tiered green. One of the most memorable holes for both its level of difficulty and the scenery is the par-4 third. This no. 1 handicap hole plays along the lake and forces you to keep a close eye on the target.

A Few Issues
The course was in decent shape. There was no beverage cart the entire day nor was there water coolers on the course. Also, some members came out of nowhere and tried to cut in front of us on one of the holes.
Very fun
Course is a blast to play - lots of variety and the greens rolled nice. Worth the 1/2 hr drive from the Dells to play
Great course for the price
Have golfed this course 3 times now as my grandma lives in Portage. Each time the course was in about the same condition - fair to good. This is a 3 star course with 4 star quality and 5 star service. Fun layout. Absolutely worth the discounted pricing at GolfNow. I will golf this little gem once or twice a season while visiting the Portage area and leave with a smile on my face every time.
Interesting course
A combination of old style holes with new. Old style holes have small greans but fair, new holes have larger more undalating greens with very difficult pin placement. Blue tees provide a challenge, greens were exeptional. Well worth checking out
THIS COURSE WAS IN EXCELLENT SHAPE
WITH IT BEING FALL THE LEAVES WERE VERY WELL MAINTAINED AND THE GREENS WERE IN EXCELLENT CONDITION. OF THE FIVE COURSES I GOLFED THIS WEEK PORTAGE WAS DEFINITLY IN THE BEST SHAPE
A nice course near Madison
We have played Portage Country Club a couple of times this year. We leave challenged an satisfied. The club house is friendly and has great food.
very narrow course
to compact and the holes was very close to each other.
Fun Course
Has some challenging holes. You better hit the ball straight or you will be in trouble on some holes. I had a GREAT time with my friends playing this course. GREAT course for the money.
Nice course! Very enjoyable!
First 3 holes short but tough! After that it opens up and is really fun!
Old trees
this course offers many challenges, be it the lovely old trees that line many of the fairways, Swan Lake that is on the left of Hole 3, or the two holes that go over the marshes. Not an easy course but many holes where you can hit driver, but you HAVE to be accurate. I've played here many times and come back again and again. It is a great value.
Satisfactory
The course is good, but made even better when you only have to pay $25.00. Otherwise, the course is usually pricey for what it offers.
Great play especially for the price Very easy to book with app
Fun to play not to difficult to enjoy day
Far from Dells but worth it
Get What You Pay For
Picked this up on Golfnow for a very cheap price. We were in the area and thought we would try it. The course has some rather interesting features most notably the 3rd hole. An elevated tee to a 230 yard par 3 with a lake down the entire left side, narrow fairway and steep hill along the right side. It is what it is a low cost muni with some character.
Good course and great food
The Portage Country Club was in excellent condition during our round of golf. The fairways and greens were in perfect shape. The course has one of the most challenging par 3 holes in WI. I have been golfing the course for many years and I always enjoy playing a round at the Country Club. Before we made the turn I called the restaurant (Murph's) and I ordered a brat, chips, and a bottle of Diet Pepsi. It was only $5.00 and she had it ready when I arrived. I highly recommend the course, you won't be disappointed.
Old club thats inexpensive and fun to play with hills and some challenging holes.
Course was in good condition. The greens were very nice. Some severe doglegs to navigate. Some tight tree lined fairways to get through as well. The 230 yard 3rd hole a par 3 is a doozy with an elevated tee, Swan Lake on the left and woods on the right/ Good luck!
great variety of holes
Super value for the quality of course. We play this course 2 or 3 times of year even though it is an hour away. good layout. takes all of the shots in your bag to complete
Seen better days
The setting is in a hilly part of the state among the Baraboo bluffs and along a rather large lake. It's quite challenging because of severe doglegs on par 5's, a very tough long par 3 set along the lake, and trees that make for very narrow fairways. It's a little rough around the edges- I get the impression it was once a very high class country club. Some of the fairway was almost completely barren of grass.
