Old Hickory Country Club
About
Old Hickory Country Club in Beaver Dam is situated on land that was used simply as pasture for grazing cattle and sheep before it was transformed into a basic, but interesting nine-hole golf course by Scottish designer Tom Bendelow. Seeing the potential of the terrain, the course was later expanded into 18 holes by Robert Greaves. The golf course originally opened for play in 1920, which has given it plenty of time to mature into the challenging course it is today. Towering oak and hickory trees line the fairways and there are 30 bunkers strategically placed throughout the golf course, most heavily along the greensides. The gently rolling terrain provides subtle but tricky contours. Long, straight drives will be generously rewarded at Old Hickory Country Club, and accuracy is also essential for doing well.

Must play
If you live with in 50 miles of the course it's a must play course! Beautifully manicured both tee boxes and greens. Fairways perfect. True links course! I highly recommend it.
Can not pass up Old Hickory
Old Hickory is a gem. Bought a voucher off of group golfer and should've had to have paid more. It was unbelievable how great that value was. Wish I lived closer. Definitely a place to play again but needs to be paired up with something else for me to drive an hour and 45 mins.
There is some definitely some Lawosina Links in this design. Course is a old school tree lined fairways with some dog legs both ways. The 10th hole is an outstanding dog leg left with a perched up green. Green speeds were amazing for a $50-$60 dollar course. Loved the par 3 7th hole. The views and scenario in that area is so good. Dont go long or its 3 putt city. The par 4 2nd is a cool hole with a tree in the middle of the a fairway (stay right) and a narrow but long green.
My only beef was the par 4 8th hole. If they took some trees down on the left side it would make it a cool risk reward par 4, but instead you are first to hit a mid to maybe long iron off the tee.
Besides that this place is so good. A terrific value and a must play for everyone in Wisconsin.
Great course
We always enjoy playing Old Hickory. it is a very nice course. Enough challenges with some easier holes. Perfect for any kind of player. The staff is excellent and always is.
Dandelion
Course is in very good shape . The dandelions made it hard to find the golf balls. Not crazy about the cart restrictions, enjoy the layout
Great place
Very interesting challenging layout, hilly, fairways, Tees and greens in good shape- very enjoyable, not crowded, beautiful day and very attentive cart girl.
Not most original course left
Positives: course in great shape, plenty of elevation changes / land movement. Negatives: I was started on the wrong 9 and my round took significantly longer than it should have and the greens / layout was obviously redone and there is not much Bendelow left.
Beautiful course
The course was beautiful and challenging. The fairways were in great shape and the rough was tough as always. The greens also didn’t show any signs we got rain. Great course and a great staff.
Best golf course in the area of Dodge County
This is by far the best deal in the Dodge County area! We played there on August 2 and the course was amazing!!!! We played with their summer sizzler deal with all the golf you want to play for $29+tax. This was the best money I spent in years on golf!
The golf course was in amazing shape. I have played most of the courses in the area and this place beat the other area course by 5 touchdown, it not even a comparison to the other course!
The greens and fairway were the outstanding. The layout of the course is visually amazing and it is carved out of a hilly, rolling, wooded terrain!
This is not only a great design in the area but one of the best design in the State of Wisconsin! I believe Tom Bendelow was the original designer and it really has the feels like you playing Wisconsin's version of Medinia Country Club in Chicago that Bendelow designed too, which has hosted U.S. Opens, PGA Championships, and the last Ryder Cup competition!
Old Hickory Golf Club is a real hidden gem and has hosted the Wisconsin State Amateur in 2008! I understand why the Wisconsin State Golf Association would want to host their premier event at this course!
After golf the we went into the club house and it was renovated this past year. There was a golf event going on in the main dinning area but it looked amazing. We end end up enjoying a beverage in the "grill room" and the service was excellent!
We struck up a conversation with one of the managers at Old Hickory. She informed us that the "grill room" will be totally renovated in September and will be call the Billy Sixty Lounge! Also the Proshop will be renovated too. It will be a whole new look next season as the bar will look over the clubs gorgeous outdoor patio and the golf course.
They also had a really cool event going on called "Rocking the Range" that evening. I was a outdoor concert in the driving range. The had picnic tables and tents set up and some of the processed went to a local charity. The music was great from the live band and food and beverages were excellent!
This is the best golf experience I have had this season. This place was amazing and for the price it is a steal! I will be back and I am thinking of joining!
Thanks to the Old Hickory staff for this great golf experience!
The view at some of the holes is very cool.
Played late Oct. with the course having lots of trees the fairways and greens had few leaves on them. We only got to finish 13 holes when weather got bad and we had to head for clubhouse.
Course in great shape!
Always competitive pricing and course always in great shape
