Clifton Highlands Golf Course
About
Clifton Highlands Golf Club, just north of Prescott, enjoys a scenic location overlooking the St. Croix River Valley. The club offers a championship 18-hole course as well as a par-3 course. Dr. Gordon Emerson, Wisconsin's most prolific course designer, designed the Championship Course. He considered it some of his best work. The golf course has enough diversity to appeal to both low and high handicappers. The layout is fairly tight with mature trees framing many of the holes. The undulating greens and fairways are meticulously maintained. A combination of water and sand comes into play, providing a fair amount of challenges without being too punishing. In addition to the 27 holes, Clifton Highlands G.C. also has a driving range and practice greens that are adjacent to the first tees of both golf courses.

Great course
Clifton Highlands provides a challenge for all golfers. Greens were excellent and one had to pay attention to where to try to place their shots when hitting to the greens. Great course, excellent condition
Nice course, terrible pace
Started around 3pm on a sat. Played behind a 6-some for half of the front, played through on 10. Flew until 14, then caught up to a pair that had been following 2 6-somes since they had teed off around 1. 4 hour round for the 2 of us (6 hour round for the guys we joined). Course was in good shape, layout was nice. But it is hard to get over the last 4 holes taking as much time as the first 14....ahhh
bad customer relations
In so many words he told us he did not like the Golfnow customers . He was rude and informed us we would have to wait since we arrived a hour early. We understand this if the all the tee times are booked, however as we waited the hour only 2 foursomes went off. We found the course in great shape and very interesting, hence 5 star ratings. But because of the check in experience we will not recommend this course to friends.
Way over-rated
I booked this course because of the 4 star rating. After 3 holes, everyone in my group said that the course better improve to justify the 4 star rating. It didn't. I would be generous if I gave it a 2 star, but I gave it a 1 star just to lower the average. Don't go out of your way to play this below average course. The layout sucks, the conditions suck, the greens were way too undulating and pin positions were stuck on every slope on pretty much every green. I will not go back, and will discourage anyone else from playing it.
Clifton Highkands - Prescott WI
A challenging well framed course that emphasizes accuracy off the tee and hitting irons the right depth into the greens. A gem of a course , and as such, the locals have much pride as they should. Outdoor grilled brats & burgers are nice Fri-Sun.
Great midwest course
Originally from the MN/WI area and now in Florida, this is one of my top 3 courses to play when I come back and visit. Great mature trees, elevation changes and each hole has its own character. Weather was great but I forgot my bug spray. I definitely recommend this course.
Six some with a boom box
Course was always great , it was always in great shape ,now very poor , tee boxes all hacked up , but what really got me was the six some with a boom box and the staff didn't do anything about it, could hear it from 300 yards away . Pay 50 dollars to listen to that . Too bad won't play again
My New Favorite Course
The Good:
Very inexpensive
Fantastic layout
Scenic holes
Woodsy but not unforgiving
Tee boxes are in great shape (other than one)
Large greens
RWB front, middle, back flag system
The Bad:
Bunkers were washed out and had water in them
Greens were very very slow (possibly due to rain)
Driving range tee box was soggy and unusable
Greens had unfixed ball marks all over the place
The snooty players that aren't even good at golf
Overall it was a pretty good experience and it's tough to beat 18 holes with a cart for only $30. The layout is by far the best thing about this course but the worst thing has to be all the old snooty wannabe Judge Smails guys that play there. They are in desperate need of a reality check because they act as if they're members at some prestigious country club, when in reality they're just a bunch of high handicappers that play a very inexpensive course located in the middle of corn and cow country.
just saying
Outstanding course.worth the drive with golf now.Getting tee time very easy. Outstanding thanks
How can you give this piece of a 5 star rating. That's reserved for courses way, way above this place. A 2 star would be a stretch, but 5 star??? Give me s break. Get out and play other high end courses and you will realize how bad this course was.
tough putting
pin placements must have been left over from greenskeepers revenge or something...wowww...hope you can stop the ball rolling downhill
tough putting
I enjoyed the course but didn't play very well. It was fun but the greens were very tough, fast and hard pin placements. They also had the large cups for a tourney cut which got in my way a couple times.
If you stay out of the trees you can do well.
I'll be back to hopefully do better.
Great day and course conditions
Beautiful day, the course was great except for the pin placement on rach green. We both found the pin placement to be the most difficult position on each green. This was a Sunday afternoon and we weren't looking for that difficult of a round.
everything excelent
could not have been happer with course conditions and staff
A5 star for this mediocre course. Give it what it deserves. Maybe a 2 star at most. Stay away.
Beautiful course
Beautiful, well maintained course. A little challenging but not frustrating. Good course for all.
A 5 star???? How can anyone rate this mediocre track anything above a 2 star?? I played today based on the high rating, and thought it was a dog track. Get real with your ratings.
Worth The Trip
This course was in excellent shape.
What a deal for the money.
I highly recommend playing this course.
Perfect Day, Great Course
I've been playing Clifton Highlands since the 1970s.
I have always loved the course. It has only gotten better in the intervening years. If I could only play one course, it would be this one. The condition of Clifton Highlands is much better than other courses in this price range.
Interesting
Overall this course is in great condition. Plenty of trouble if you are not in the fairway. All the greens slope from back to front, some more than others. Depending on how dry and how close the greens are cut you might feel you are putting on blacktop. Prices for hot dogs, brats and hamburgers are on the high side, but they are what they are. Got a good price through GN and the weather was great windy but dry.
Challenging course
This course is very challenging because of the greens. Lots of slope and very fast. Stay below the hole is a must. How this course only gets a 124 slope rating is a mystery. It is more difficult than 135 slope rated courses that I have played. Fairways in good shape and overall course condition is excellent. Practice area and clubhouse are marginal. Must be able to control your approach irons as to distance and line & have good speed control with your putts if you want to have any chance to score here.
hole 14 (on backside of clubhouse) is a short but very quirky par 4. Green built into hillside at sharp right angle relative to fairway. Locals play this by trying to bounce approach shot onto green by hitting right rough to right of green and have gravity take over.
Tough Greens
The course was in very good shape. This was my first time playing this course and didn't know where to land the ball on the greens. If you are not in the proper position on the green it is extremely difficult. I don't think there was a flat surface on any green except for the practice one.
You slam the course but give it a 5 star rating???? This is a mediocre at best dog track. Conditions suck, and u won't play again.
