Eat like royalty at The American Club resort in Kohler
KOHLER, Wis. -- The American Club doesn't get the credit it deserves as a destination for foodies.
Two local favorites -- Wisconsin cheese and beef -- are prominently featured on several menus at this five-star golf retreat on the shores of Lake Michigan and the Sheboygan River one hour north of Milwaukee. The cheese curds and beer cheese soup highlight the comfort foods of the casual bar setting of the Horse & Plow.
The private Immigrant Restaurant remains the signature meal at the resort hotel, while the Sunday brunch inside the Wisconsin Room delivers a smorgasbord of prime rib, breakfast favorites, pastries, seafood and more. The dining at the two golf clubhouses rates among the best in the country.
The log clubhouse at Blackwolf Run serves exceptional steak and a unique S'mores dessert where guests melt their own marshmallows onto homemade graham crackers. The stone clubhouse at Whistling Straits is perfect for lunch or dinner, especially sitting outside overlooking the 18th green of the famed Straits Course. The scallops are especially good.
For those looking for a treat, the Craverie Chocolatier Cafe makes its own tasty creations, and the Green House serves ice cream and smoothies in a flowery courtyard just off the lobby of the hotel.
Resort guests also have access to River Wildlife, a private recreation and dining club that serves great eats. There's no shortage of choices, that's for sure.
