Rock River Country Club
About
Playing Rock River County Club in Waupun is like getting to play two golf courses in one. The course originally opened in 1927 as a nine-holer but was renovated and lengthened in the 1980s but the front nine wasn't added until 2004. Only a few holes remained from the original nine-hole course, but they play just as they did in the 20s. The newer front nine has a link-style design that demands accuracy off the tee with 29 sand traps strategically placed throughout the nine holes. There are a variety of other hazards as well. As you move onto the back nine, the golf course's character changes completely. The holes have a traditional design and they are much more wooded with mature trees framing almost every hole, just waiting to knock down an errant tee shot or missed approach.

Reviews
A nice surprise
A very pleasant experience. The front 9 is more of a links style course. Greens were firm and true. Nice fairways and a nice layout. Accuracy is a premium on both the front and back 9's. But you need to hit short of the greens on the front and let the ball roll. Highly suggest practicing on the putting green because the actual greens are the same. Back nine tightens up and a lot more trees. Nice course, well maintained, and fun to play.
Great fall day for golf
Our group had a fantastic time out golfing and the course was in immaculate shape. The grounds crew went as far as clearing all the leaves off the course. This was one of my all time favorite trips out on a golf course. Greens were fast and tricky for how much rain we have had.
Wonderful time ..nice course
We golfed here on Saturday with friends. Course was in great shape. The weather was wonderful and play was at a pretty good pace. The facilities are nice and clean but could use some updating. The staff was very friendly. We will definitely golf there again. Good value.
Variety
Nice variety in the course with 9 holes links and 9 holes woods.
Always enjoyable
4th time playing this course this summer. Fun course. A very good value. I will play here again.
Beautiful Course...But
The course was very nice. Tough! No refreshment cart seen on a very hot day...could have been more restrooms on the course(porto)...had a good day all in all
Great Greens
I was paired up with a man who used to work on this course and who golfs on many courses and he said that these are some of the best greens in the state of Wisconsin. As an avid golfer myself, I would have to agree whole heartedly. I liked the difference between the old nine and the new nine. The old offered well placed mature trees while the new was a links style. Coincidentally my playing partner had almost the same name as mine and our initials are both PVG. I highly recommend this course. (Par fours were almost 400 yards from the white tees which can also be a challenge.)
very different 9s
Staff was very nice and course was in good shape. Greens were very fast. Front nine had marsh and tall grass along with some big bunkers to deal with. Back nine had a lot of mature trees. If you missed left or right you hit one as there are many. Fun course.
Great value
Bring your A game, tough course! Fabulous condition, greens are incredible, fast true so it takes a little patience to get used to the speed. I'll be back!!
Dual Personality course
Very challenging course. Front nine is newer and a tight links style. Long and straight shots are a must. The Back 9 is a tight mature treed track with narrow fairways and overhanging tree limbs to snare your shot. 17 is a bit quirky for the first time player. All in all a great experience. Good shape considering the heavy rain this season. Greens are fast, very fast, but fair.
Challenging
Very good course. Will play again. Course was in very good shape. I really liked the back nine. I recommend to play. The rate I paid was a steal.
Course in great shape
The course is fantastic for how early in the season it is and due to weather. The greens are rolling and everything is far ahead of other courses. Great challenging course and a lot of fun playing there.
Two distinct nines make this an interesting and enjoyable day.
The front nine is open, but water and well placed sand traps increase the difficulty. The back nine is loaded with trees designed to knock down your drive, but you can out think the course too by club selection and planning your shot. A great challenge every day.
Good course
Had a good time here. The greens got a bit hard once the sun came out. Fun course though
Great play for the price
We had to play the course after a superscramble but the course was in great shape and the staff was phenomenal. the opportunity to play two nines in a round that are so different is nothing but great value!! Can't wait to play again
This one of the best in middle wisconsin
We last played there the weekend of the British Open: As we arrived they were double rolling the greens but every green is TRUE. The membership and staff are great to visit with and always ask us to come back Wish I could play there more!
This course is in excellent shape and offers a great challenge.
This course is in excellent shape and offers a great challenge.
Good value for what we paid.
The back nine is very interesting and requires accurate tee shot for approach . Back nine is a links course but very boring.
poor scheduling
Course doesn't have a system that recognizes your online reservations and tee times. We showed up and our tee time was given away. Had to wait 45min. They need to understand how to communicate with online reservations companies, if they are going to chose to have that as an option for their customers. They handled the situation professionally and we were pleased with our experience after that point.
