Moor Downs Golf Club originally opened in 1915, making it one of the oldest golf courses in Wisconsin. This nine-hole course is enjoyable for all skill levels, offering challenging practice for beginners as well as a quick, casual round for more advanced players. The course is owned by Waukesha County and the layout surrounds the County Office Building. It is not the most formidable round of golf, but it is a fun round that has a surprising amount of challenges in store including several strategically placed bunkers and tricky doglegs like the sixth, which is fairly open but requires a second shot over water to a double-tiered green. The mud from this area was rumored to have healing power and was used in the Moor Bath's and Hotel in the 1920s. Moor Downs Golf Club finishes with its longest and toughest hole, an uphill dogleg right that requires a carry over water.

Great Practice Course

I golf here a couple of times per week on my way home from work. Twilight golf starts at 5:30pm, and is only $10. The course is rarely busy, and 9 holes usually breeze by pretty fast. Difficulty is pretty easy, but there are occassional beginners that will hold up the pace.

Overall, the course is in very good condition for an inexpensive county course.

I would recommend.

Urban Gem

This course is literally smack dab in the middle of the Waukesha County grounds (the juvenile detention center, the jail, the medical center) so it really doesn't give you much of a secluded typical golf course feel. In fact, there is a point during the round where on your golf cart, you're led through an industrial park via the sidewalk (from the 2nd green to the 3rd tee box) so that's pretty odd. I've never seen that before on a golf course. Also, this golf course's layout is EXTREMELY confusing. I got lost several times trying to find where the next hole is and there really aren't any signs that lead you in the right direction. It's a lot of crossing in between holes to get to the next tee box, so again, that's pretty weird. One more bad thing is that if you take a cart here, be prepared for a bumpy ride! There aren't any cart paths so you have to ride on the fairways and rough, which is excrutiatingly bumpy and uneven. It feels like you're riding in a four wheeler through rough terrain than on a golf cart in a fairway.
But, for the money, (15 bucks for 9 and a cart between 1 and 3 during the week) this course is excellent. There were hardly any people out there so its a good place to come and work on your game without a whole lot of eyes watching and pressure from people behind you. The greens are average at best but the hole layouts are fun and challenging. My favorite hole was number 3. t was an elevated tee box with a severe dogleg left. I took a risk and cut the corner, which worked out in my favor. It left me with a 60 yard approach shot. For a longer hitter, its possible to drive the green here.
So besides the layout being funky and the ground being rocky and the course being in the middle of an industrial park, this place is perfect for a quick and cheap 9 holes to practice for bigger and more expensive courses.

It's alright.

There were a few things that stood out about this course.

1. They offer footgolf that plays along the route of the golf course.

2. The layout is somewhat disorganized. Multiple times you're directed to cross through another hole.

3. Taking a cart on this course feels like an offroad adventure because of the amount of inconsistencies, bumps, holes and rough terrain on the fairway.

Course was great

Course was great but I booked for 18 holes through GolfNow but it wasn't until I made the turn when the clubhouse told me it was only for 9 holes and GolfNow was wrong.

Bad

Worst greens ever. It's like putting on a beach. Cones all over the course with huge holes. Don't golf here.

Great 9 hole value in urban setting

Couldn't pass up this tremendous value from golfnow.com. Course was an urban course intertwined between residential and commercial buildings. It was only a par 34 course so there some beginners/duffers out there. The pace of play was rather slow because of that. There were no cart paths either. It looks like they had recently modified the 4th hole since it was different from the map on the score card.

Not enough carts, waited 30 min after tee time to tee off

I went there with my girlfriend and once I finally tee'd off the pro shop belted over the loud speaker that I needed to wait for another 2 some to join us. This was after we sat for 30 min to wait for a cart to show up. It would have been nice for them to tell me when I first went to check in instead of being forced to play with a father and his 9 yo son at the pace of a snail. The Walking 4 some in front of us played faster than our 4 some with carts. I understand it was labor day and the course was busy but 3+ hours to play 9 holes w/cart is ridiculous. Did I mention that moor downs does not have any par 5 holes? No bev cart girls and no carry ins allowed either. I do not recommend this course unless you are seriously scraped for cash.

Great county course

We were unable to use motor carts due to the incredible amount of rain we've had, so we walked. The course is very old and beautiful. It was worth the ride from the east side of Milwaukee.

9-Hole course

For a local gem and a quick 9-holes, it is worth a trip. The rough is punishing (early May) as it was lush and meant an extra stroke. The greens are in good shape (not the best shape) but I can imagine that with the summer, these will also be much more tricky as the speed should pick up. Long hitters have no advantage (except the last hole) as most holes need placement of the drive.
After heavy rains, there are areas that have standing water (there were two ducks in one of the bunkers at the first hole!

Short but fun

Great for a quick 9 in the heart of Waukesha. Don't expect much out of this small county course, but for getting out and swinging the clubs it is great.

What seems like a great deal sometimes is not

I showed up exactly on time, the teenager behind the counter was less than enthused to be there. The course was being repaired on numerous holes and there was such a stench of fertilizer on the back nine that I became ill that evening. There was none of the usual courtesy from the grounds crew, they could care less if I was teeing off or putting while attending to their duties.

I'm sure that this isn't the norm, they need to maintain their course, but I can see why it was so cheap. Maybe I'll give it a try again down the road, maybe next season.
