Bull at Pinehurst Farms
About
The Bull at Pinehurst Farms has the distinction of being the first Jack Nicklaus Signature Course in Wisconsin. This highly acclaimed golf course is ranked in the top three in Wisconsin and was ranked as one of the top 100 public courses in the U.S. by Golf Digest. Formerly the Pinehurst Dairy Farm, the rolling terrain was transformed into a challenging and scenic layout. The golf course stretches to 7,354 yards from the back tees. It is a round that will test both your distance and your accuracy. Mature trees and native grasses accentuate the lush greens hills. There are a variety of elevation changes throughout the course, some of which are seemingly benign but can actually be quite tricky. The golf course closes with a memorable par 4 that has water in play, in the form of a lake and a rocky creek, until the sloped green.

Top Notch Course
I’ve played 8 Quality golf courses so far this year nothing even comes close to the Bull at Pinehurst Farms, that is not an exaggeration that is a fact.
The Bull at Pinehurst Farms! No Bull! One of the Best courses in Wisconsin
Starts off with a couple of nice and open holes. Then challenges you to keep it straight.
Impeccable condition! One of the best practice areas around!
A must on your golf destination list.
Excellent staff!!
Just Wonderful
This course is very difficult but certainly has playability for almost everyone. The conditions are superb and riding a cart makes the long journey quite enjoyable. Walking this course with its many elevation changes would be a challenge even for the athletic type. This is our home course and its been wonderful for years. If you're thinking of playing here you will not be disappointed. It ranks very highly in Wisconsin as it should. The new owners have already made some nice improvements and we hope it continues.
The Bull: A Course that Redefines Value
Important information before reading my review:
I played this course in May of 2019, not January of 2021. (The calendar made me choose the day I played here, and wouldn't let me go back any further than 2020). I also was around an 8-10 handicap at the time, and I'm currently around a 4 or 5 I would say. I was 19 years old when I played The Bull at Pinehurst Farms, and I got to play this course during the Spring so it was only around $60 for 18 holes with a cart, which is profitable for being a college kid. If you are ever in Kohler and have time to play one round, this course is definitely the most worth it, including the courses and Blackwolf Run and Whistling Straits (they are very nice courses but extremely pricey). I was shocked at how great my golfing experience was for it being just $60 to play.
The Course:
I knew before heading here to play that it was going to be a very nice course and fairly difficult, and this course did not disappoint. I played from the blue tees and shot something around 80, and it was also a lot longer than most courses. The fairways and greens were in exceptional shape, especially for it being Spring time where the conditions are typically more wet than usual. The layout of the course is visually aesthetic and extremely fun to play no matter what level of golfer you are. It is also a playable course even for high handicappers, but certain holes are definitely a lot more difficult than others.
Unique Aspects:
One thing I especially liked about this course is that it is extremely diverse in the way it plays. The par 3s, 4s, and 5s all vary in distance significantly, and every hole is so much different than the rest any other hole here. Some holes play downhill, some play uphill. Some shots favor a draw, some favor a fade. Some holes are fairly wide open, some are tighter and require extremely demanding tee shots and approach shots. This is exactly what golf fanatics like to see when playing a course in order to get the best experience they can, and The Bull truly delivers in this way.
My Favorite Holes:
Hole 2:
A medium length par 4 with water all along the right side, but still a scoring opportunity. Very fun elevated tee shot, and cool approach shot with a wedge. Also looks cool from the tee and is aesthetically pleasing.
Hole 5:
Another medium length par 4, but demanding the whole way. With a deep chasm/valley running the entire length of the left side, this means you need to favor the right side on this slight right to left dogleg. The right side of the hole has a lot of trees also, so it is imperative that you hit a good tee shot preferably in the fairway. This was the one double bogey I made when I played here, and I didn't even go in the chasm on the left side.
Hole 6:
A medium length par 3 that is a forced carry all the way over a big deep trench full of bushes. A scary tee shot, but very fun to play especially if you find the green.
Hole 11:
A fairly short risk/reward par 4. If you play your tee shot out to the left side of the pond, the fairway is much wider but you'll have a slightly longer approach. If you play your tee shot more aggressively to the other fairway on the right side of the pond, you will have just a short wedge shot into the green. Although, the aggressive line towards the fairway on the right requires you to carry your tee shot much further and hit a much smaller landing area. I took the risky line off the tee to the right side when I played and hit the tiny fairway, and ended up hitting a great wedge shot which led to my only birdie of the round. A fun hole to play nonetheless, especially with friends or if you are competing in a match play competition.
Hole 15:
A medium length par 3 that is fairly straightforward, but water lines the left side of the green which can make for a somewhat intimidating tee shot. Another very fun hole, and shouldn't be too difficult if you play to the center or right side of the green.
Hole 17:
A somewhat long par 5 with a flat tee shot, but the second shot overlooks a huge valley where the green is located on the far side behind a few bunkers. You can easily go for the green in two here as long as you hit a good tee shot.
A fun hole to play from tee to green.
The Most Difficult Holes (To Make Par On):
Hole 3:
A fairly long par 3 with the green touching up against the water just right of it. This is an extremely difficult tee shot especially if the pin is located near the back-right area of the green. This hole also has bunkers and will typically provide you with a difficult up-and-down if you miss the green.
Hole 5:
I explained this hole above, but basically a demanding hole all the way. One pulled or pushed shot can lead to a bad score here.
Hole 10:
A longer par 4 with a fairly straightforward tee shot, but a demanding approach as bunkers and other hazards line the right side. Par is a great score here.
Hole 12:
An extremely long par 3, tipping out at 236 yards. The length isn't the only issue here, as the green complex is difficult to putt on, and getting up-and-down for par is no easy task. Tree limbs also overhang the right side of the back tee boxes so you are basically unable to hit any right-to-left tee shot. This is probably the most difficult hole on the course in relation to par.
Hole 16:
A medium length par 4 that plays uphill, but requires a straight or right-to-left tee shot. This hole is tightly lined with trees, and even the slightest off-line tee shot will leave you blocked out and unable to reach the green on your approach. The approach is a short wedge over a deep trench that is very close to the front of the green. This is one of the most demanding tee shots on the course.
Hole 18:
A long par 4 that plays 485 yards from the black tees, and is uphill the whole way. The tee shot isn't too difficult, but the approach is typically a mid to long iron that plays uphill and favors a fade. Trouble lurks short and right of the green making this one of the most demanding approaches on the course if you are trying to make par or better. Any golfer should be happy ending their round with a par on this treacherous final hole.
Final Thoughts:
This is an extremely fun course to play and is worth every penny no matter how much you pay to play it. The layout, the staff, the difficulty, you name it. I would recommend this course to any golfer that is in the Kohler area, as it provides an extremely valuable overall golfing experience.

Nice day to golf
The course was in great condition and the green were in good shape and good speed for being aerated two weeks ago. This is a very challenging coutse, and has some fun holes.
The Bull is No Joke
First time out at the Bull for the season. It is in incredible shape and as challenging as ever. Staff is very helpful and friendly. Definitely one of the best courses in the state.
Great course!
Great course! Great conditions! I will be golfing there again
Tournament conditions
I was pleasantly surprised playing this golf course at the end of April it was like I was playing this course in the middle of the summer everything was outstanding the greens were rolling at least 10 1/2 the fairways were outstanding I’ve been playing this golf course since it’s open I’ve never seen it in greater shape
Great all around
The course was in amazing condition especially for so early in the season. The layout is challenging but very fun. It’s a very high risk high reward course. Awesome terrain and elevation changes throughout. The staff were so friendly the entire day. During lunch after the round, one of the new owners of the course came over and introduced himself and just thanked us for coming out. Genuine people. Great course. I can’t wait to come back later in the season when I’m not as rusty and shoot a lower scoring round.
R1
I just thought it was a beautiful and tough golf course but tough is the way we like them .
the greens were outstanding compared to this time of the year it was like the middle of summer conditions already
can’t wait to go back
Beautiful layout
Very challenging need to choose your tee choices very carefully. As a 12 handicapper with over 170 courses played the Bull is easily in the top 5 most difficult
Greatly enjoyed round -- especially for Nov in WI as
weather was outstanding! Was watching for late
season deal and would rate this a great value.
