DeerTrak…

A course that could be great, hampered by little things that add up quick. As many note, the teeboxes are crowned and uneven. There are some rough areas throughout the course that look more like a field at the park than a golf course. But these can be forgiven by means of an interesting layout (minus the first hole which is a sore outlier, belonging on an executive course like Moor Downs or Brookfield Hills) and fair greens that roll true. However, there are only two ways to play at DeerTrak. Either you go during midmorning or later and play a 5 to 6 hour round, or go early morning and have to contend with sprinklers on in the fairways, no flag sticks, no tee box markers, while dodging mowers and green rollers. If someone telling you to aim at them instead of the flag is not your cup of tea, then I would avoid the early round altogether at DeerTrak. During the early morning, you additionally will lose one of the saving graces of this course—the cart service. During the day the cart service is excellent. I have rarely found myself thirsty, despite there being no water dispensers on the course. For $50 on a weekday there are many better options in the area for the money.

Best in Southeastern Wisconson

The front nine can be challenging but if you play smart you should good. The back is by far my favorite nine I have ever played. Its designed great with the island green and the par 3's with the hazards. Just an excellent course.
