Ozaukee CC - Strong Langford & Moreau Design in MKE Area w/ Great Bones

The Good: Ozaukee CC in the northwestern suburbs of Milwaukee is a 1922 William Langford & Theodore Moreau design that has had significant updates over the years, most recently with a nice Ron Forse update. It’s a beautiful parkland design known for its conditioning and it did not disappoint: the fairways and rough were in perfect shape, while the greens were as slick and demanding of any course I’ve played so far this year. Really solid Par-3’s, especially the short 14th that is a mini-boxcar hole similar to Lawsonia Links. Several tough, long doglegs make for a demanding challenge! Beautiful clubhouse and a very nice, accommodating staff that treated our unaccompanied group like kings. Good practice facility with nice driving range, short game area, and putting green.

The Bad: I was disappointed that there didn’t appear to be much L&M design left. The trees around the course are nearly overbearing and could use a restoration to bring out some of the nuances of the terrain that are now enveloped by forestry. The green on the Par-4 8th hole is absolutely atrocious and one of the most obscene I’ve played in recent memory.

The Verdict: Ozaukee CC is a Top 5 Milwaukee area golf course that I have played, but it has the potential to be a true hidden gem to the level of West Bend if properly restored to its original design intentions. A highly recommended walk in the park that could have even more character.

Best Hole: The aforementioned Par-3 14th has the most Langford in it, but I actually liked the 16th, the other Par-3 on the inward half. It is a very pretty hole in which a short iron must navigate a pond and two deep, cavernous bunkers.

Great old school private track

Ozaukee CC is a real treat of an old school private course.
As you can expect course conditions are outstanding. Tight fairways, fast greens, tree lined fairways. You see the design of Langford/Moreau alot more in the back 9 than in the front.

16 is a great par 3 over the water surrounded by bunkers. 9 and 18 are beautiful holes with walks back towards the clubhouse. Ozaukee is everything you expect from a private course. Great staff and great conditions, also a great selection of apparel. Gotta love the Peter Millar.
