Riverside Golf Course
About
Riverside Golf Course is located on the northwest side of Janesville near the Rock River. Opened in 1924, it is one of the oldest courses in the area and over the years it has earned the reputation of being one of southern Wisconsin's best public courses. The course has also been recognized as one of the 50 best public golf values in the country. The gently rolling hills of the landscape provide the course with rolling, tree-lined fairways and large, undulating greens, which are framed by strategically placed bunkers. Riverside is a challenging course but not so difficult that beginners should be intimidated. The classic layout is quite forgiving and versatile enough for a range of skill levels, one reason why it is the host to the Ray Fischer Tournament, one of the Midwest's most prestigious amateur events.

good followup
Everything about the course was great, we had an issue on the first hole with a player that was following us. We got to the 1st tee 4 minutes late and he made some comments about holding them up. Some I told him they could take our time then he started using the f bomb a lot. So we tee off and they never got close to us again.
Good course, but slow
It took quite awhile to get checked in, only one person in front but the gal was on the phone for quite awhile. When I got on the course there was a foursome in font that after awhile let me play through. I caught up with a twosome that invited me to join them because they were also being held up by a five some with two walking. This was on hole 5, we were behind them through 18.
Great Course
Riverside is a great course to play. They could use a little more cracking down for pace of play. 18 holes took us 6 hours. Also lady at the check in desk is not friendly at all. For working there for so long she should know how to treat paying customers.
This course is a great beginner course for a beginner like me . It is gorgeous lots of nice scenery and hole layouts.
A pleasant surprise
We ended up here because the brother-in-law spoke very highly of this course and it's typical conditioning. For $30 on a weekend and with the weather being gorgeous, it was a perfect day.
The variety of holes and the routing was interesting, very few back and forth holes , which is different than most of the parkland style courses around. The movement flowed really well and took you all over the property. The holes are getable and with the chance to go for most par 5's it forces the player to hit an aggressive tee shot to end in a position to attempt the next shot.
The front nine is absolutely fine, but I think for me the highlight of the course was 10-14. The side hills and possible downhill lies on 10-11 make you think over the approach shot and where you want to try and get the tee shot to land. The end of this stretch is another par 5 with an aggressive line to cut some of the corner off the tee will leave the player with a chance to get home in two, to I think one of the biggest greens on the course.
Conditions were great, tee boxes well kept and although penal, we could fairly easily spot balls in the rough. This coming after a ton of rain the entire week leading up to our round. The bunkers we landed in all had good drainage and we were able to play out of each one.
Overall the value for the price is really good, combine that with the conditioning and the fact pace of play at 11:00 am on a Sunday at a muni was pretty decent this is a course that will make the repeat list.
Riverside
Excellent shape. Greens were cut really short most likely for tournament coming up
Very Nice Public Course
Course was in great shape! Well manicured and some nice flower placements.
fun course
havent played this course in for 38 years. since high school golf! course is in really nice shape with interesting design. great greens. fun course. great friendly staff!
With ease and grace
I have played this course a couple of times in the past few years. Everytime I play here I always say why don't I play here more. The city does a wonderful job maintaining the course. Even after heavy rain the next day is good to go. The coarse drains very well. Lots of mature trees and enough room for a bad shot not to take more then one stroke. If you haven't played play it you will enjoy it.
