Coachman's Golf Resort - Blue/Red
About
Coachman's Golf Club in Edgerton offers 27 holes of championship golf that sprawl across gently rolling hills covered with mature oaks and beautiful willow trees. The holes are divided into three nines: the Red, White, and Blue, that were designed to appeal to all skill levels from high handicappers to scratch golfers. The nines are played in three different 18-hole combinations. The Blue/Red Course combines one of the longer nines with the shortest. Added in 1990, the Blue Course was the most recent addition to the club while the Red was Coachman's first course in 1968. Water hazards come into play throughout the golf course, presenting a formidable test for even the most advanced players. The mature trees definitely come into play and there are also strategically placed bunkers throughout.

Excellent value for this great course. Never have a problem with getting a tee time and n this 27 hole course.
Never Again!!!
We got to the fourth hole and we were shocked to see 5 (five) carts in the fifth fairway. There were eight people on one hole. Directly in front of us was a dad with two younger kids. No big deal, but the eightsome? We jumped to six only to see the eightsome had jumped to seven. They were very loud and obnoxious. Not to mention SLOW. Never again!
Worth playing
My son and I played Coachmen''"s on a Wednesday late morning. We played the blue tees which measured at about 6200 yards. The condition of the greens was very good and they rolled true. The rest of the course was in Average /good shape with a variety of challenges. The pace of play was excellent. The pins were in some nasty positions. All in all it was a good experience especially with a cheap price from Golfnow.
Something's wrong
Coachman's Golf Resort is a beautiful place to shoot golf, however it is a terrible place to play golf on weekends....how can that be?
Well, for the 4th straight time now, we have encountered groups of 6 and even 8 at times, out there hootin & hollerin, dragging their spikes across the greens, spitting out red gooey candy or gum, or something...the biggest problem is that when a two some (my wife & I ) get stuck behind one of these groups, we pretty much lose heart & leave. I complained to the starter, and he said "that's the way it is out here on weekends"...Golf is supposed to be a gentleman's game, but weekends at Coachman's, it's more like a drunken free for all...
flatlanders heaven
Coachman's can be an enjoyable couse if you avoid their primary clientelle, which is the many Illinois residents who stay at the inexpensive motel on the property. Weekends can get pretty busy, and you can easily be in for an unacceptably slow round during the popular times (Friday afternoon, all day Saturday, Sunday mornings). If you avoid those times and get a discount, the course can be fun. The red nine (old front) is the shortest of the 3 and they really need to recalibrate their tees so that the average golfer can play 18 from whites at 5900-6100 yards. Besides feeling like the white tees are too short, the tees themselves are ridiculously small and crowned in the middle, I have never played another course in my life where you can't get a flat lie on your tee shot. The layout has some interesting holes particulary on the white (back) nine. The greens have always been the best aspect of this course, they are pretty consistent and roll true. The staff is friendly, they usually have a starter although they don't cope well with being busy. My previous visit, we had a noon tee time on a Friday and found that there were no carts available! And once we managed to get two it was a free for all getting off on any of the nines. All I get from that is that the management is too cheap to make sure they have enough carts to handle the demand.
If you can play an off day and get a discount, this course can be a fun place for a round, particularly if you don't have to drive far to get there.
27 holes to enjoy
The course was in very good condition except for the large amount of rain that left water around the course but still very playable.
Nice course, good value, mowing problems
Overall, I would give this course a 4-star rating, but the groundskeeping crew needs some instruction. We were "paired up" for something like 4-5 consecutive holes with a large and very noisy mower. The operator was oblivious to our presence and refused to stop or even slow down when we were playing, either along the fairways or around the green. In one case, he popped out from behind some bushes and drove directly across the front of the green while my ball was in the air.
I also wonder why groundskeepers do not mow the holes in the opposite order from that in which the players are playing the holes. That way, a single playing group would not be paired up with them hole after hole after hole.
good golf, modest price
Nice golf course, friendly staff, some challenging holes, but nothing too tricky.
Fun Day Out on the Links
This course is what I would call an average course. It's rather flat, so easier for people who have a hard time with up and downhill lies. After a late Spring, it was in pretty good condition. They had only three choices for tees, and being average golfers, we chose the middle tees. That made the course much shorter than if we had played the furthest (blue)tees. Most of the intermediate (white) tees were much closer to the red tees than the blue. At any rate, our scores were lower than we're used to. The hazards were generally easy to avoid, and the traps were not as deep as many courses I've played. All in all, we went out on a pleasant Sunday at 11:30, and had a nice 18 holes of golf in about 3 and 1/2 hours. With the price we got from Golf Now, it was quite a value. We'll be going back.
Not too long, but challenging.
Picked a rainy day to play, but a very friendly staff member supplied us with a cart enclosure which was very nice. Course was in very nice condition, free of leaves, well maintained. Due to the inclimate weather, not many golfers on the course and we played a very quick round. Played the whites which are under 6300 yards, but we still found it to be challenging.
one of our faves!
This course has always been one of our favorites! The staff is always great to us n the course is always beautiful. Pin placement this time made it even more challenging than normal. Overall, great 18!
Play it when it's not busy!
The course is average, but the price was right. Our round took over 5 hours. The dear old man working as the starter had no clue where to send us out (red, white or blue course). It's his job, right? The twosome we caught up with (after 2 guys in our group left) had started an hour LATER on another 9.
Poorly managed and slow pace of play.
Tee times were poorly managed. 6-somes were out on the course. 27 hole layout not well managed. Would not golf there again.
tee boxes need attention, otherwise course is in good shape
tee boxes need attention, otherwise course is in good shape
overpriced for the money
condition was very wet, (not due to excessive rain) maybe too much watering. pace was ok. staff was cordial at best.
Will not play again
I played this course on a beautiful Sunday, and the place was absolutely dead. It seems that most people are smarter than I, and knew to avoid this course. Unless you live out in the middle of nowhere, you will probably have to drive at least 30 minutes just to get to the course, depending on where you are coming from. There are three 9-hole courses, and they are all laughably short - the longest of the three was only about 3,000 yards from the blue tees. Many of the greens are comically stupid, wherein the entire green slopes downward from front to back at what seemed like a 45 degree angle. Many of the greens of the par threes are ENTIRELY surrounded by bunkers, even on the back side...because why not, right? Yardage markers other than the standard 100/150/200 were nearly impossible to come by. And worst of all, the course, despite being incredibly easy, was full of absolutely horrible golfers - I fully recognize the right of bad golfers to play, it just made for a ridiculously long round, despite there being so few people on the course. I will not be playing here ever again.
My thoughts on
The front 9 was in much better condition than the back 9 which needed some attention. I know this facility has been around for at least 35 yrs and needs some updating and freshening up. The course is in playable condition but needs some work!
Pace of play - extremely slow
I had to wait for a cart, as none were available when I arrived. The course was in good shape. It took 3 hours for the front nine. There was a group of six players in front of my threesome. We called the pro shop and were told that motel guest could play in large groups. To top it off, this group wouldn't let us play through. I will never return to this course.
Course is OK but a bit below average in condition and in difficulty
Course and facilities need rejuvenation. Don't pay a lot to play here. Staff are friendly enough, but course is not overly challenging.
course was in good shape and staff was friendly. would return
Went here with a friend, tee off at 8:22 and we were done just before noon, so rate of play was pretty good considering we had a slow 4 some in front of us on the front nine. It was nice that they have 27 holes so we got on a different back nine and were able to play at a reasonable pace. Fairways/greens were all in good shape. Hopefully it can stay this way all summer. I will return to this course.
