The Golf Course at Branch River
About
The Golf Course at Branch River, located just west of Manitowoc, is an extension of the former Lakeside Country Club that was established in 1909. Branch River is an 18-hole course that sprawls across rolling, wooded hills. The fairways are lined with mature trees and the gently undulating terrain guarantees a few uneven lies. Strategically placed sand traps and water hazards will further test your accuracy. The vigorous golf course is a good test but it is not so formidable that beginners should be intimidated. The par-4 second hole offers one of the most interesting risk-reward situations on the course. Golfers who are feeling confident with their driver can try to hit it past the big tree hanging over the right side of the fairway, but those who are less confident can play to the 100-yard marker and use a short iron from there.

Great but gnats!!
The course was in great condition and the deal we received was outstanding. But, the gnats were unbearable. As much as I love the course and the great deal we received I would not go back unless someone can assure the gnats are gone or the have advice on how to get them to leave you alone.
Nice Course
We played this course after a 2 inch rainfall the night before. We signed up for the afternoon tee time in the late morning. It was supposed to be a riding round of golf but the course was to wet to allow carts. The pro offered us pull carts at no cost (riding carts were included). The course was wet in spots but carts could have been sent out with stipulations ( like riding in the rough). The greens have not recovered from winter but are getting better. It would have been nice if golfnow was informed that carts could not be used. It was a hot humid day and quite a work out for 2 seniors. We did have a good time.
good
if your in the hood you should play here for the price you can not beat it
Great day for golf
Had a great time playing this course. It was in above average condition for this time of year, especially with the winter and spring we had in NE Wisconsin. i am sure the next time we play it will be even more of a challenge because of the way they maintain the course. Really looking forward to be back in summer
Pretty basic
First time playing this course and was somewhat disappointed. I guess I was expecting more. The positive was that it was well maintained and the greens putted well. My issue with the course was that, with one exception, the design is very plain and somewhat boring. The bunkering is really poor along with really flat and simple green complexes. An OK course that I would recommend as long as your expectations are not too high.
Branch River 10/26/13
A great little gem that is worth the drive. Fun old style course that challanges you throughout. Greens were as good as any I've played on all year.
Very nice course
Well maintained. Greens were very good; this course
has a very interesting variety of holes; tree lined with the
feel of a classic type gold course.
First day of fall, greens fast and well manicured
Course was in great condition other than fairways not cut. In fairness we had 3 rain days which probably made it impossible to cut. Great food on the turn or in the bar/restaurant at resonable prices. I use this site when I travel as well. It gives me insite to local courses AND great savings. Simple to use. Pay online, check in at the course, no money due and off you go.
What a great deal and fun course
It was in such great condition and the course is beautiful. Nice greens and lots of challenges and fun too. Bunkers will keep you alert
Great layout, and in excellent condition.
Can normally play at a good pace at BR. 2 shortcomings - have played there 5 times this summer; 3 of the 5 times, carts are not available, and groups need to wait for carts to come in from people finishing. Causes tee times to back up. Other bigger problem is gnats can be bothersome. Usually, just a handful of holes, although 1 time was on most holes. Last week was much better, perhaps due to colder nights, or a light wind that was blowing. All in all, a very nice course, good difficulty and variety, which is kept in excellent condition.
GREAT COURSE..NICE STAFF..MUST SEE..
This place is like a diamond in the rough...love it!
Course in excellent condition. Staff super friendly.
Would definitely play this course again. Very accessible.
The only negative thing I would say is the bugs are pretty bad.
Otherwise, everything excellent.
Impressive
Real nice course
Friendly staff
A hidden gem
Would like to play again
MUST PLAY!!!!!
I played this course on 7/24/13.. I was impressed with the size of the lay out.. It had a HUGE practice area with a range and a bunch of chipping greens really cool.. I didnt have time to practice but the looks of the area was impressive.. I thought the course was in great shape.. I play a lot around Sheboygan and Green Bay area, definitely in the top class of tracks in this area. MUST PLAY!!!!.
The course has a nice variety of holes and the two nines play nicely.
I would recommend the course to friends. Only negatives are that there is no one to control rate of play when some groups were playing rather slow and spending too much time looking for lost balls. There was also a large amount of gnats around the tee boxes and greens making it difficult to play sometimes. The bev cart was out frequently and was friendly.
Fun layout where good scores are earned
Branch River contains a nice mix of holes to challenge every level of golfer, with few forced carries to detract lesser players. The greens had a rough winter in 2013, and as of this writing they were still bumpy and slower than the staff would like them to be.
An enjoyable layout where good scores are earned. Bring your bug spray and prepare to tolerate gnats. Electric carts are a plus, and the practice facilities are very nice.
You have to check this place out!
We played on one of the hottest days in a N.E. WI Summer and this course was in great condition. Fairways lush and the greens were rolling very nice. Do yourself a favor and put this course on your list.
Hidden gem, only 30 minutes from Green Bay
Branch River is a very well maintained course only 30 minutes from Green Bay. Lots of character and some very scenic holes. Will definitely return again.
Great Value worth the drive
There were six of us, drove an hour and all agreed the drive was worth it. The course was in great shape, the greens ran true and all but one were in good shape. A beautiful, mature course worth the drive. The staff was accommodating and even got us off early. After the round a great value lunch at the club house with good food.
