Baraboo Country Club
About
Located just a short drive from Madison, Baraboo Country Club overlooks the rocky bluffs of Devil's Lake State Park. The golf course has a stunning natural setting that is also indicative of the rich history of Baraboo. The course is routed through carefully protected and preserved Indian burial mounds that are more than 1,000 years old. Draper creek ambles through the golf course, connecting Devil's Lake to the Baraboo River. It comes into play on half of the holes. The par-5 eighth is the course's signature. This tricky hole first requires a drive over water to a generous landing area before doglegging left to another landing area that is tightly lined with trees, water, and Indian mounds. Finally there is a blind shot to a sloping green that not only breaks severely from back to front but is also well protected by bunkers.

Great place to golf
Great staff fair drink prices and fun course to play
Quirky and Fun
Baraboo CC is a hidden gem. I had lived with 80 miles for 60+ years, but had never experienced this enjoyable layout. First, the clubhouse is modern and it sits at the highest point on the property. The golf shop is small, but we'll staffed with head pro Clint and assistant Marcus. They were most welcoming to my wife and me.
I liked the scorecard distance guide which recommended the correct set of tees based on how far each player hits his/her driver. The hole configuration is unusual, starting with a par 3. The par 5 third hole is (almost) reachable and the seven front nine par 4s offer a good variety. #9 is an excellent challenge. In all my years of playing, it was the first and only time I hit eight fairways in regulation. The back 9 has three of each (3, 4, and 5 pars). The par fives are outstanding on the back. Number 17 is the signature hole, with a special third shot required to have a chance at par.
Course conditions were very good overall, having easily withstood a heavy rain the day before. Tee boxes need some attention, however, and the sand in the bunkers was dark and heavy. Rain influenced that, but a mix of lighter material would help.
A serious golfer all my life, I thoroughly enjoyed my BCC experience. Only a triple bogie on 18 kept me from shooting my age. I definitely want to play there again.
Great Memorial Day golf outing
Had a great day playing with my two son-in-laws at B.C.C. Course was in nice shape and pace of play good for a holiday weekend. Greens could have been a bit faster and holding true to read. Staff at check-in very welcoming and friendly. Would definitely recommend playing this course.
greens quick and flag pins hard to see.
overall nice course. Fairways a little wet and recommend laying off watering.. Most difficult flag poles and flags ever to see. Recommend dumping present system. In order to score you must avoid 3 putts on quick greens. did not care for hole 17 and having played course about 10 years ago forgot how quiiky it was. Overall nice course and kudos for all the signage to different holes.
